Different species of  Game Birds on our Hunting Preserve to choose from

Chukar

Chukar, a game bird, is becoming increasingly popular among hunters. They are larger than quail and smaller than hen pheasants. They are also known for being agile and fast, able to run and climb like mountain goats. Sporting unpredictable flight. Chukar hunting is a fun activity and their meat is considered to be the best among game birds. Chukar are one of the best birds to train young dogs on.

male northern bobwhite quail

Quail hunting is a challenging activity due to the fact that these birds are small and tend to move in Coveys. Quail can be unpredictable, changing tactics. They might rise sharply and quickly into the open, or they might stay low to the ground and dodge through weeds and branches. This can make for an exciting hunt. They fly quickly and close to the ground, making it difficult to aim. The experience of having multiple birds suddenly take off in different directions is thrilling and will test the skills of any bird hunter.

Male Common Pheasant Phasianus colchicus in the wild. The male pheasant hides in the grass

Pheasant hunting is considered by many as the ultimate game bird experience. What sets it apart is the alertness of the birds, which makes them run at the slightest hint of danger. Being the largest game bird, they have strong flushes and can fly long distances. These birds are beautiful with their impressive plumage and are fun to hunt.

Saftey

Although bird hunting can be enjoyable, it also requires a high level of responsibility. While hunting itself is not necessarily hazardous, it can become dangerous if firearm safety protocols are not followed. When going afield, it's important to refresh the basics of gun safety before each hunting season as taught by the National Shooting Sports Foundation:

  • Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.

  • Firearms should be unloaded when not actually in use.

  • Don't rely on your gun's safety.

  • Be sure of your target and what's beyond it.

  • Use proper ammunition.

  • If your gun fails to fire when the trigger is pulled, handle with care.

  • Always wear eye and ear protection when shooting.

  • Be sure the barrel is clear of obstructions before shooting.

  • Don't alter or modify your gun and have it serviced regularly.

  • Learn the mechanical and handling characteristics of the firearm you are using.

Guests must be 18 years of of age or older unless hunting with an adult parent/guardian.

Shooting guests are required to sign a safety waiver prior to hunting.

Guided Hunts

Training a hunting dog is a time-consuming process that requires significant effort and expertise. While these dogs possess natural instincts, they must be trained to perform beyond their inherent abilities. We understand that many hunters lack access to a well-trained hunting dog, which can impede their success during a hunt. We offer access to professional guides who utilize their own highly trained hunting dogs to make your hunt successful.  Our guides are carefully selected based on their professional skills and their dogs' abilities to meet our stringent criteria, ensuring that you receive the highest quality service possible.

We always have 10-15 fully trained guide dogs available, specially bred and trained to perform for you. Our dogs are kept in top shape throughout the year and are tested in hunt tests to demonstrate their workability. They have extensive experience and can find birds even in the most challenging conditions.

Non-Guided Hunts

Have your own dog? There's nothing more exhilarating than a day in the outdoors doing what you love and watching your dog work!  You are welcome to bring your own dog  to hunt over or come out and tune them up before hitting the road to persue wild birds or trials. We are happy to offer non-guided hunts as well. One of our experienced guides will plant your birds for you, with no additional assistance so that you and your dogs can enjoy time in the field! You can also opt for one of our experienced guides to walk with you in the field as part of your guided hunt, and assist you with training your pup, or working out issues with your more experienced bird dogs.

Shooting Lessons

Are you ready to take your shooting skills to the next level but don't have anyone to guide you? Are you itching to start a thrilling new hobby but don't know where to begin? Do you want to share excitement of target shooting or upland hunting with someone special? Look no further, because we've got you covered!

Group Hunts Or Corporate events

We recommend splitting large parties into smaller groups of 4-6 people for safety. We also will base group size on hunting experience. We will have you hunt in adjoining fields. These hunts are great for Corporate events, bachelor parties and etc. We can customize these hunts to fit your needs.

Clay Shooting

We offer Clay Target Shooting year round with our Wobble Trap thrower.  Plan to arrive early for your hunt to "blow off the rust", or bring a group of friends out for some fun and have a BLAST!
